Young Achievers looking to maintain dominance
After producing another inspiring performance to top all contenders in the 6’s format, Young Achievers is once again favoured to defend home court when the Castrol Strikers organised TradeWind Tankers True Champion Volleyball Tournament moves to Goed Fortuin tomorrow.
The competition which will see three formats being utilised has entered the fours format and this segment is also expected to produce some exciting volleyball among the teams that have advanced to this stage.
The West Demerara side completely dominated the first phase of the tournament winning both legs at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall and GuySuCo Training Centre (GTC) respectively and based on form and all round ability is highly touted to come out on top once again with the likes of Randy Adams, Khemraj Singh and Christopher Ramsundar in their line-up.
However, some of the other teams seemed to be closing the gap on the country’s most dominant side and teams such as GTC, Port Mourant Jaguars two units, Castrol Strikers and Lusignan have all looked much improved.
With $20,000 and $10,000 respectively up for grabs for the winners and runners-up of each format fans could see some nerve tingling matches throughout the day.
On August 20 the competition moves back to Berbice in New Amsterdam, while the semi-finals and final are set for September 3 and 10 respectively
Meanwhile, the overall champion collects $80,000, runner-up $40,000 and third place $20,000.
