Dear Editor,
The Administration of Region One seems to have no long term plans for development in the region. The Government, nationally, plans to distribute laptop computers but the centre of Administration at Mabaruma District gets nineteen hours of blackouts every day. Sometimes no power is there unless people use private generators.
Are there any plans by the Regional Authorities to lessen the blackouts?. If not, how would the recipients of computers be able to operate?
They also receive only one hour of water every forty-eight hours. Are there any plans to improve the water supply? What about fixing the overhead watertank so as to have natural flow of water?
The main shopping area in the District is at Kumaka. The road is like a quarry with big holes and pools filled with water. It is a nightmare for commuters, taxi and minibus drivers to navigate between these holes and pools on a daily basis.
Spare parts and repairs for vehicles are always high . Are there any immediate plans to fix this road? Lap tops may fall into these pools and spoil.
The Barabina Swamp Road which is about 200 meters long is constantly under water. Lots of poor people reside in this Amerindian village. They cannot pay the high transportation cost so night and day they have to slush through the water. How would they make it through with their laptops?
This village is about two kilometers from the centre of administration. Are there any plans to fix this road?
Wake up administrators and take some actions.
Desmond Fernandes M.P.
