Better Hope XI led by a swashbuckling knock from Ricknauth Rooplall defeated Combine Warriors when action in the Kares Ten10 cricket competition continued at the Ogle Community Center Ground in the Lower East Coast zone.
Rooplall lashed a resilient unbeaten century (135*) which included 19 mighty sixes and 2 fours to lead his team to a record 218-3 in 10 overs. At the other end, Chris Patadin slammed 48 to record a partnership of 200 with Rooplall.
The eventual winners then returned to remove the opposition for a measly 58 in 8 overs. Also in that zone and at the same venue, Enterprise Young Achievers was embarrassed by another village team, Enterprise Young Achievers after suffering a record 7 run outs.
There was also intense action in the Essequibo zone and one particularly action packed encounter was eventually decided by the super over while another was won by a nail biting run.
The teams progressing are Cullen SC, Die Hard Brothers, Endeavour, Windsor Castle Cricket Team, Affiance Storm and Vergin Gladiators.
Heavy rainfall in Linden failed to put a damper on Saturday’s games and several matches were contested at the Bayrock Ground. The Linden teams that progressed to the next round are Classic Cricket Team, Canvas City Tigers and Wismar United.
The matches scheduled for Georgetown and East Bank were rescheduled from Saturday to Sunday and several teams progressed to the next round. They are Courts, Supernova and Gem’s XI; several teams won by default after their opponents failed to show up.
The match between DCC Dynamites and Gem’s XI compensated after both teams compiled the same amount of runs in the allotted overs forcing a super over to separate them. In the end, Gem’s XI prevailed and advanced to the next round.
All told, a record 190 matches were completed to date while the fixtures are published in several editions of the print media.
