Recently formed coalition, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), views the call by the incumbent PPP/C to re-open the Claims and Objections period a desperate measure.
GECOM, this week, voted by majority to re-open the period of Claims and Objections to allow for registration of persons who were not allowed to do so.
The APNU said the agreement by the PPP of this measure reflects “anxiety and confusion” in the PPP/C’s camp. The coalition’s claim follows President Bharrat Jagdeo’s prediction of victory for the PPP/C at this year’s elections, something the coalition said was “a spectacular reversal of confidence” when the PPP “desperately” called for a reopening of the registration period.
“It seemed that their internal analysts finally sat down to analyze the numbers and realized that President Jagdeo’s projections of victory were just not assured,” APNU stated.
More recently, the coalition said that PPP General Secretary, Donald Ramotar, continued to parrot President Jagdeo’s criticism of Presidential Candidate, Brigadier (ret’d) David Granger “by blatantly lying about the candidate’s involvement in conjured-up nefarious political activities almost 40 years ago.”
The coalition said that in spite of the PPP/C “control of the national media; in spite of their suppression of the press; in spite of using state resources to fund Mr. Ramotar’s campaign; in spite of all the advantages they have crafted for themselves, they are still threatened.”
Brig. Granger yesterday challenged the PPP/C to produce any records they have proving his involvement in any nefarious activities.
“The PPP/C cannot produce one such document because they are lying to defame their biggest threat, APNU Presidential Candidate, Brigadier (ret’d) David Granger,” APNU stated.
APNU called Granger a “decorated patriot.” The coalition has challenged why there have been no accusations against Major General Norman McLean, who served in the Army at the same time as Brig. Granger.
Major General McLean is a former Army chief-of-staff who was repeatedly hired by the government, APNU stated.
“Mr. Ramotar and the PPP/C are desperate and they are, therefore, clutching at straws but the people of Guyana know better,” APNU stated.
