Georgetown and Lethem to conclude today
Golden Stars of Golden Grove saved the best for the final two minutes as they nailed Daddy’s Enterprise to win the East Coast Zone of the inaugural GT&T FastBall knock-out football tournament yesterday at the BV Community Ground.
Golden Stars, trailing 1-0 for almost the entire match, relished the introduction of the all important blue ball as they banged in back to back goals in the final two minutes to win the game 4-1 and bragging rights for the next year as the best FastBall team in the East.
Carlos Kingston netted both goals (six second penalties) for the winners, Daddy’s Enterprise not being able to control their flair for fouling. They had taken the lead in the 10th minute through Owen Adonis.
Yesterday’s third place encounter was a historic moment for the competition as it was decided after a total of 19 sudden death penalty kicks, the home team BV Triumph United being victorious 10-9 over Ann’s Grove/Line Stars United.
Regulation time of 30 minutes failed to separate the two sides, ending 1-1. Eon Dooker handed BV the lead in the 9th minute a lead they enjoyed until the 25th when Ann’s Grove/Line Stars leveled the score line through a Dwayne Rogers goal.
With sudden death penalty kicks having to be employed to decide the winner, neither team wanted to give up as their players scored including the two goalkeepers. In the end, it was the 9-member BVTU line up that prevailed, one of their players having to score twice.
