Fans were robbed of opportunity of seeing the region’s most destructive batsman in action during the Digicel home series involving Pakistan and India after Jamaican IPL Super Star Christopher Gayle was controversially discarded by the West Indies selectors.
But the explosive left-hander will be among a galaxy of International stars on show at the Guyana National Stadium in four day/night t20 matches on August 12 and 14 as a part of the annual Jamzone Summer break 2011 events.
Guyana’s top promotion group, Hits and Jams are renowned for bring mega stars including Neo, who was here during last year’s Jamzone’s activities, from the music industry to entertain Guyanese at several super concerts.
This year they have collaborated with the Guyana Cricket Board to stage what is anticipated to be a pulsating event of high-class t20 cricket involving some of the top t20 players in the world in a massive four-team show down under lights.
The Georgetown Pitbulls, defending local national T20 champions Berbice, New Line Cavaliers and the Hits and Jams combination will vie for top honours.
Each team is allowed three International players and the dynamic Gayle, who played for the New Line Cavaliers when he last played a local competition in Guyana, will this time have what should be a sell-out crowd jamming as he hits for the Hits and Jams side which will also include West Indies players Danza Hyatt, Andre Russell and Krishmar Santokie.
Former Guyana T20 keeper Tyrell Tull, is fully recovered from injury and will want to prove that at 24, he is still the best glove man in the country and fit enough to be considered for National selection.
Ramnaresh Sarwan, another of the senior players sacked by the West Indies selectors, will spearhead the Georgetown unit which will include the pugnacious Trinidadian Keiron Pollard, his countryman Navin Stewart, Guyana’s latest West Indies player Chris Barnwell and former West Indies ODI left-hander Leon Johnson.
The Trinidad pair of West Indies opener Lendl Simmons and all-rounder Ryad Emrit will hope to shine for the New Line Cavaliers which will also include former West Indies under-19 Skipper Andre Percival and National left-hander Gajanand Singh.
Berbice will have declined to have an overseas player and boast of retaining their title with an all-Berbcie set up. They have in their camp the dangerous 2010 Caribbean T20 sensation Jonathon Foo, West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, the dashing national opener Richard Ramdeen along with Narsingh Deonarine, Sewnarine Chattergoon and the Crandon brothers (Royston and Esuan) who have all worn West Indian colours.
Matches will commence at 17:00hrs and 21:00hrs respectively on each night and according to Hits and Jams, sponsorship details and ticket information will be made public next week when the biggest T20 competition for the year is officially launched.
