Turfites were treated to a day of unbridled action when the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club staged their horse race meet at the Ryan Crawford Turf Club, Sunday afternoon last. The organizers have promised similar entertainment when the horses once again take to the track this Sunday July 24 at the Number six racetrack.
Already, the top horses have shown remarkable form and it is anyone’s guess which jockey would ride away with the honours. All eyes will be riveted on Marathon Man and Grande Roje from the Jumbo Jet Stable. Both animals have been showing good form at exercise and have registered a mere 50 seconds over the four furlongs distance.
Then there is Night Crescendo who recently stormed back into contention after undergoing a period of rest from the tracks. Last Sunday, he competed in the ‘B’ Class event and it was clear that the period of rest had done wonders for him. He would be returning this weekend with a similar veracity and turfites would not want to miss this race.
Added to these races, those attending the event could anticipate the hotly contested races when the nation’s top horses take to the starting line. Expect hot action from Wada Luck, Champtress, Fairy and Dubai Dutchess. All of the animals have been going well at gallops and are expected to scorch the track this weekend.
Also going well at gallop are horses from the Fazal Habibulla stables and one to watch is ‘The Bailiff.’ Then there is ‘Stormy Flame’ from Custom Racing Stable and Mr. Gold Finger from the Tony Racing stable. These are West Indian bred 3 years old.
The fun continues with Mr. Lenny Singh ‘Irish Girl’ and Mr. Celebrating Love from the Jagdeo Stable. Add other animals the likes of Big Impact and Captain Crook from the Jumbo Jet stable and a day of entertainment is truly guaranteed. Other horses looking impressive includes Chris Jagdeo’s dark bay filly Gillium, Colin Elcock’s The Message and Donut Prince.
With such a lucrative lineup horse racing lovers are assured of a day of exhilarating races and unmatched entertainment.
The Norman Singh facility also recently constructed 20 new stables to ensure the racehorses comfort and safety. The track is reported to be in excellent condition and club officials Ghansham Singh and Compton Sancho said that based on the entries an explosive meeting is in the offing and fans will not be disappointed.
Entries closed last Sunday and over Singh informed that over 100 horses have been entered as they battle for the $10M in cash and trophies on offer.
The race meet will be run under the auspices of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority. The feature race is for B class horses with a whopping $1.2M up for grabs with the horses set to gallop over a distance of 1600m.
The top West Indies Bred three years olds in the country will be in action as they battle for the top prize of $600,000 over 1600m.
The three year old event for Guyana Bred horses has $400,000 for the winner over 1400m. The F Class event also has a lucrative first prize of $500,000 with the distance set at 1200m.
In the two year old West Indies Bred race the animals will compete for a first prize of $450,000 and will be run over a distance of 1100m. The Guyana Bred Two year old horses will run for a winner’s money of $400,000 over 1000m. There is a race for G1 and lower horses which has a first prize also of $400,000 with the distance set at 1400m.
The other races listed for the day’s programme are ‘I1’ and lower 1200m event with a first prize of $180,000. The I3 event for winners of one race only and non winners has a first prize of $170,000 over 1100m. The final race for the day will be for unclassified Division 1,2&3 animals and will see them racing over 1200m with the winner taking away $150,000.
Outstanding performers on the day’s meet will be presented with trophies compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market and cash prizes from sponsors Digicel.
Race time is 12:00hrs sharp. The organisers are asking all horse owners and fans to turn up at the venue early for a prompt start to the 10-race programme.
