Police in Pembroke Pines, Florida in the United States are searching for a Guyana-born woman and evidence they gathered yesterday from a dumpsite suggests that she has been murdered.
A report by CBS 4 Miami stated that Natalie Belmonte, who resides at 19331 NW 5th Street, was last seen returning to her home from a party around 2:30 a.m. last Sunday.
Police have searched from the air, on the ground and in the water for the missing Pembroke Pines mother.
“We’ve been searching waterways and wetlands around the Belmonte home along with other law enforcement agencies,” said Pembroke Pines Police Captain Dan Rakofsky. “The search is continuing by land, air and water.”
Police said they have evidence, found in a dumpster, that has led them to believe that foul play is a theory in the case.
The report said that the investigators searched area dumpsters, including a dumpster near 194th Street and Sheridan, behind an animal hospital.
According to the report, a veterinarian technician at the animal hospital witnessed the dumpster search and said police took out several white trash bags with sheets that had blood on them.
The missing woman’s neighbours and family friends are said to be stunned by her sudden disappearance.
“It’s just very, very strange that nobody has heard from her for two days now,” said Belmonte’s neighbour Al Quintana. “It’s very, very strange and very strange (that the) police don’t have a lead right now as well.”
Quintana was quoted as saying the night before she disappeared, Belmonte and her 22-year-old son had gone to a party together.
“When they got home, he said he went to bed and the next thing he remembered is waking up taking out the dogs and finding out that she wasn’t there,” Quintana said.
The son, said to be the last person to see Belmonte alive, is said to be “cooperating with investigators.” A person of interest has not been named at this point.
According to CBS4, police said there were no signs of forced entry into her home and her cell phone, purse, personal belongings and vehicle were found at the home.
In addition to her 22-year-old son, Belmonte is said to have a 20-year-old daughter in college, and a 17-year-old son in high school.
