Dear Editor,
I refer to the letter under the caption ‘We still need to hear from Dave Martindale!’ in your June 23rd edition, and say that we have not yet heard from Mike Persaud with respect to the letters which he alleged that I have written in support of Dr. Misir.
Instead of making a direct and positive identification of any such letter, he completely avoids my request and sites two other unrelated letters.
In the first letter I had disagreed with Mr. Persaud that Mr. Rickey Singh was exiled from Guyana, while in the second, I advanced arguments in support of the CCJ as the Caricom Region’s court of last resort. Both letters had everything to do with patriotism and nationalism, but it is unfortunate that Mr. Persaud conveniently concluded that the overtones of those letters were political. For such a simplistic academic error, he must be pitied.
I fail to see in what ways those letters were connected to or supportive of anything which Dr. Misir has said
In fact, now that he has revealed that there are some comprehension issues to deal with, I have to contemplate whether or not it is worthwhile accepting Mr. Persaud’s invitation to a debate.
Indeed, Mr. Persaud has revealed also, his mischievous agenda by trying to link my writings with those of other persons with less than honourable intentions. I think that the records will speak for themselves.
In my 2007 response to Mr. Persaud’s erroneous assertion that Mr. Rickey Singh was exiled from Guyana I submitted that his deliberate attempt to distort the truth reminded me of a statement by ‘Sister’ Charmine Mc Lean who in the valedictorian oration of the 18th convocation of the Wesleyan Bible College said: “How foolish brilliant minds can become when seeking to avoid the truth”. That statement seems to be affecting Mr. Persaud until this day, but it is no more than the truth…
I have every reason to believe that Mr. Persaud is not only trying to avoid the truth, he is seeking to distort it as well. In his vain attempt to justify that Rickey Singh was indeed exiled, Mr. Persaud cites a definition of the term and gave examples of same. In one of the examples he said that Lord Rama went into voluntary exile for 14 years.
I have since conferred with several persons who have professed to be knowledgeable in the subject and they have all advised that Lord Rama was compulsorily exiled into a forest for 14 years. On the contrary, I would continue that both Rickey Singh and Mike Persaud left the land of their birth very much unlike the manner in which Lord Rama left for the forest.
The fact that he could deliberately twist and distort the facts about someone as eminent as Lord Rama suggests that he may be having a difficulty with the honesty and veracity.
I am not versed in Hinduism or the works of Lord Rama, but I am impressed with a statement mentioned at the website About.com.Hinduism which highlights some of Lord Rama’s qualities. The statement reads as follows:
“The most popular symbol of chivalry and virtue, Rama – in the words of Swami Vikeananda – is “the embodiment of truth, or morality, the ideal son, the ideal husband, and above all, the ideal king”.
I have underlined the word ‘truth’ for emphasis, because Mr. Persaud seems to have a difficulty with embracing it. Be that as it may, I am still expecting him to identify the letter or letters in which I would have supported Dr. Misir or criticized the USA. Should he fail to do so in a reasonable time, I would have a sincere difficulty debating him. How can I debate him on the contents of a letter which does not exist?
