GCA rewards successful women’s team for commendable performance

The experts have posited that adequate recompense is a strong catalyst to continued success and the executive body of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) has demonstrated a true understanding of this concept when it presented a monetary incentive to the female cricketers that recently carted off the honours in the just concluded senior female inter-county cricket tournament.
Yesterday afternoon, at a simple ceremony at the Woolford Avenue headquarters of the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO), President of the GCA, Roger Harper, joined with two of his Vice Presidents, Neil Barry and Azad Abrahim, and shared out envelopes containing monetary incentives to the lasses in commendation of their sterling achievement.
Mr. Harper explained that his executive had committed to the gesture at the start of the tournament but only if the team had come out victorious. Not only did the cricketers keep their promise but they also remained unbeaten in the tournament after disposing of teams from the East Coast, East Bank and the West Bank Demerara.
“They have kept their end of the bargain and it is now time for us to respond accordingly,” pronounced Mr. Harper. He explained that the incentives were derived from a sizeable sum that was donated by a member of the corporate community. “They delivered the goods which is better than their male counterparts,” said Mr. Harper moments before handing over the envelopes to the women. He closed by beseeching them to aspire for greater achievements.
Mr. Barry and Mr. Abrahim echoed the sentiments of their president and further urged the women to continue in the same vein towards other aspirations. For his part, Mr. Barry urged the lasses to work assiduously in encouraging the involvement of other women out of Georgetown in the sport.
All three executives noted that the fact that the Berbice team contained three players that comprise a part of the West Indies squad was commendable enough to earn kudos for the Georgetown lasses. Akaze Thompson was adjudged the player of the series and received a pair of batting gloves for her efforts. She played in all three matches and scored a total of 110 runs with a highest score of 68. She further registered a strike rate of 70.06 and had bowling figures of 10 overs, 2 maidens and took 3 wickets for 13 runs.
