As part of their annual humanitarian outreach programme, the non-Government organisation, the Guyana Watch Inc. has extended their services to the county of Essequibo.
The team which comprised twelve doctors and 13 support staff, attended to Essequibians at the Cotton Field Secondary School yesterday.
Speaking to Kaieteur News, president of the Guyana Medical Watch Inc, Tony Yassin observed that the need for proper medical care in Guyana was overwhelming. He noted that proper medical care was lacking in hospitals country-wide.
According to Yassin, the team will not only be offering free medical care, but would also provide guidance and educate persons about their health.
Zeroing in on the cases that they have confronted in Essequibo, Yassin said mostly chronic and anti fungal cases were observed.Cases of hypertension and diabetes were also treated.
Dr. Chiran Reddy, a registered dentist operating in the United States of America, said that during his five year visit to Guyana, he observed several cases of cavities and gingivitis.
From his research, Dr. Reddy, noted that those alarming cases were as a result lack of fluoride in tap water.
Dr. Reddy also blamed the large intake of sweets for the prevalence of tooth decay in children here.
The medical team commenced operation in Georgetown on Friday, hours after they arrived in Guyana and continued on Saturday, at Wales.
The team heads for Timehri today.
