Bartica’s top performer at this year’s Grade Six Assessment was recently rewarded for her efforts. Eleven year old Shania Wilson of St. Anthony’s Primary School secured a place at St. Stanislaus College. Shania was presented with a laptop computer from the School’s Old Students Association.
This initiative began last year when the Association rewarded the top student, Mr. Aaron Usman, for his outstanding performance with one Laptop Computer. The Association believes that children need to be rewarded for their success, which entailed commitment and dedication.
In a brief statement, the Association said they would like to change the image people have of Bartica as only being the gateway to the interior.
“We believe that Bartica has the potential to produce the top student in the country, more so the Caribbean region…but it has to first start with the student, the family, the school and then the Community”.
This initiative is expected to become a yearly event.
