When Monsterratian born Rensford Beaton walks out to spin the toss on the opening morning of the TCL Regional Under-19 cricket championship in Georgetown, he will become only the second fast bowler to lead Guyana at the Regional level. Beaton will join Sydney Matthews who was the National Under-19 Captain for the 1971 Benson and Hedges Championship held in Jamaica.
Strange enough, Matthews was elevated to the 1971 captaincy after touring with the first West Indies Under-19 team in 1970 to the United Kingdom, while Beaton’s appointment followed his stint in Dubai in early in 2011.
