Kevin Edwards, who was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
On July 4, last, Edwards reportedly assaulted Basil Agar causing him grievous bodily harm.
The 20-year-old defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police Prosecutor Venetta Pindar stated that on the day of the incident, Agar was riding along Bonasika Street, Campbellville, when Edwards told him to stop.
The defendant then approached Agar and inquired why his girlfriend was seen walking out of his yard. An argument ensued and Edwards subsequently struck the complainant several times with a rake.
Agar sustained injuries and as a result he was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted a patient at the male surgical ward before he was later released.
The defendant was subsequently arrested and charged with the offence.
Edwards was placed on $150,000 bail and ordered to make his next court appearance on July 18.
