The man who broke and entered a game shop and stole a quantity of items was yesterday jailed for 12 months. The 20-year-old pleaded guilty and subsequently told the court, “I thief it yes but (the owner, Rennard Overton) get back everything in de end”.
When Devon Lee appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court he was told that the police are saying that between July 11 and July 12 he broke and entered a game shop and stole 10 play stations, two play station game system, one weed machine and three flat screen televisions worth $724,000, the property Rennard Overton.
Police prosecutor Venetta Pindar told the court that the defendant’s brother is an employee of the complainant and he would normally be in possession of the keys to the game shop.
Pindar stated that on the day the incident occurred the suspect collected the keys from his brother; opened the game shop and removed the articles mentioned.
Overton, upon visiting his games shop noticed the articles missing and made inquires about what had transpired. The matter was reported to the police station.
The court was told that investigations carried out led to the defendant’s arrest. Lee then took the police to where he had stashed the valuables.
All the articles were recovered and Lee was subsequently charged with the offence.
