Seeking legal advice on the way forward
Some members of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) are not accepting the results of the recently held Annual General meeting of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB).
The officials, who wished to remain unnamed, are calling it a ‘slap dash’ way of what an AGM should entail and does not recognize the newly installed GCB as it is presently constituted.
The members of the BCB stated yesterday that they are presently seeking legal advice with the possibility of challenging the result of the GCB’s AGM.
The Berbice Board is presently citing a number of discrepancies that took place at the meeting held on July 9.
They informed that the BCB had sent a letter stating that they would not participate in the AGM.
According to the BCB members, the GCB acknowledged receipt of the letter which was copied to the Minister of Sports, the Guyana Friendly Society and every executive member of the GCB. The BCB claims the content of the letter was ignored at the GCB meeting. The BCB officials also claim that the GCB meeting was not properly constituted when it began.
“Even if the GCB counted the two Berbice members that were present, that would only make it 11 delegates. The other persons present were not members of the BCB and were taken to the meeting by David Blacks.
The BCB had earlier presented a list of delegates from which the GCB were supposed to be guided from,” a BCB member said yesterday.
The BCB officials say the Board never participated in any GCB meeting sanctioning any AGM nor were the BCB notified of the impending AGM.
“We never knew that the Essequibo board took the Friendly Society to Court, as we would have liked to be a part of the proceedings. There were other discrepancies that took place at the meeting including no President, Secretary and Treasurer Reports being submitted,” they continued.
“At no time was David (Blacks) who is the current First Vice-President of the Berbice Board authorized to vote at any meeting of The GCB and was only authorized to attend as an observer.
The BCB is also very upset with the attitude and action of Blacks in going against the decision of the board,” the BCB member said.
The officials claim that the Berbice board is stating that Blacks did not only attend the meeting against the decision of the BCB, but, hired a car and took another Executive member and three other persons, including the taxi driver, who are not members of the board to the meeting
“His actions mislead the public that the BCB members were at the meeting. His actions are viewed as a blatant disrespect for the BCB and his fate will be decided at a constituted OGM to be held shortly,” the BCB member disclosed.
According to the BCB members, Blacks is to cease transacting any business on behalf of that Board and is to hand over all property and documents he has for the BCB.
They said the BCB is also taking steps to look into complains of clubs of the West Coast of Berbice on financial and other matter and is to summon an urgent meeting with all clubs on The West Coast of Berbice.
The BCB officials claimed that Blacks has not responded to any call or correspondence from the Berbice Board.
