Salim Basir, of Meten-meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara, who was in custody for brutally stabbing his wife, has been granted bail.
Basir appeared at the Wales Magistrate’s Court on Monday before Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan. He was represented by defense counsel Huckumchand.
It is alleged that on July 7 last he attempted to kill his wife Malini Basir. He was placed on $300,000 bail and ordered to make his next court appearance on August 21.
The victim, 34-year-old Malini Basir, was only discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital on Thursday.
According to initial reports, Mr. Basir attacked his wife in full view of two of their three children.
Reports are that the couple had been separated but Mr. Basir would visit the home to collect his children to take them to school.
On the day in question the children were heard screaming which alerted neighbours. When persons rushed to the couple’s home the woman was found with wounds about her body and bleeding.
The husband was found calmly walking out of the yard. He was subsequently arrested as his wife was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital. She was immediately transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
