The first weekend of matches in the Kares T10 which is administered by The Guyana Softball League and Sponsored by Kares Engineering saw some 200 matches being concluded around the country. The Georgetown Zone (Zone E) had the bulk of the matches but a lone century was scored in the West Bank Zone by 20 yr old Kishan Shivgobin playing for Independence War Dogs and came against Professional Challengers. In the same match Jainarine Etwaroo another promising youngster bowling very quick captured 5wkts for 5 runs in 2his allotted 2 overs with one being a maiden. There were some other big contributions this time from the Lower Corentyne zone (Zone L) with Jonathan Foo clobbering 67 with 9 sixes and ably assisted by Ramnarine Chattergoon who also scored a half century (64) which included 6 sixes. They are in the Albion Community Center team and were playing against Front Street Warriors who felt the heat. Meanwhile in the Upper Corentyne Zone a super over decided the match between Line Path Youth Group and Mujahedeen team in which the latter came out victorious batting last. Both teams ended their ten overs on 105 – 6 wkts. In Essequibo they were able to get off most of their matches as the teams who eagerly awaited a competition of this nature played some exciting games. Die Hard Brothers prevailed in their match by 1 run against a team calling themselves the Tsunami XI. Other teams advancing were El Dorado SC and J.C Stars.
On the female side Well woman which included several national players thrashed their opponents by some 58 runs after electing to bat first and notching up 108 -4 in 10 overs.
In the school category some 20 matches were played and the teams advancing are Ebascol Educational Center and Shivita Business College who are the favorites in their zone of upper East Coast.
Matches that were scheduled for Sunday were all postponed because of the rain that fell.
Fixtures for this weekend will be out on Thursday in the Guyana Chronicle newspaper and teams advised to note to show up at 9.00 am on match day.
