Professional Guard Service employee, Robena Hutson, on Sunday evening succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after a CBR rider slammed into her at the Plaisance minibus park while she was returning home after work.
Reports are that around 17:00 hrs, Hutson was crossing the road at the East Coast Demerara minibus park, when the rider of the CBR who was said to be speeding, crashed into the woman.
According to an eyewitness, the 55-year-old woman was sent hurling into the air and landed some distance away from the scene. The rider then gave his bike to someone in the area “to push” and he began walking away.
The dead woman’s sister-in-law, Janice Carter, told Kaieteur News that persons who witnessed the incident related that the perpetrator tried to escape but was apprehended by police ranks patrolling the area.
This newspaper understands that the man told the victim’s family that Hutson was “walking fast over the road” which is how the accident occurred. He told the family that the bike hit the woman at her side.
Contrary to his explanation, Hutson’s grandchildren stated that their grandmother was very sickly and had just recovered from an illness so it was not possible that she could have been walking “fast”.
In fact, she was said to be limping slowly, even in the rain due to her not being in the best of health.
Another relative who gave her name as “Mala” explained that she visited the GPHC a mere two hours after the incident took place only to learn that Hutson had already passed away.
“She had both legs broken, face was bruised up badly and she skull fracture.”
More family members told this publication that when they visited the Brickdam Police Station yesterday, the CBR motor-cycle was not lodged there, and police ranks informed them that “they had to go get the bike later”.
When Kaieteur News contacted the Professional Guard Security Services, management praised Hutson’s performance and contribution. She was described as hardworking, friendly, church-going and reliable.
She has been employed with the service since 1999.
Hutson leaves to mourn her only daughter, Sharon, and her two brothers, three sisters and eight grandchildren. (Kristen Macklingam)
