Former champions BV Triumph United (BVTU) and Victoria Kings both opened their quest to for top honours in the 2011 edition of the Mackeson / East Coast Football Association (EDFA) Senior League with contrasting wins on day one of the competition Saturday last the BV Community Centre Ground.
While Victoria Kings easily brushed aside their opponents Mahaica Determinators 3-0, BVTU were made to work hard to achieve their win over Buxton United.
Buxton took the lead against the home team BVTU in the 16th minute on account of Derrick Blair’s goal but the home team did not have to wait too long to neutralize the advantage. Four minutes later, Sean Daniels netted the first of his double to level things up.
The half ended with the score unchanged and it was not until the 56th minute that Daniels was able to breach the Buxton defence again to register the winning goal for BVTU.
Victoria Kings made light work of Mahaica Determinators as their veteran players led the way following an uneventful opening 45 minutes.
Winston Pompey netted a brace (51 & 58) with the other coming off the boot of Aubrey Gibson in the 63rd minute.
Two more matches were scheduled for the same venue yesterday but a waterlogged outfield as a result of some rain and owing to poor drainage of the ground made it impossible for any football to be played.
