The United Force (TUF) on Saturday formed its first official party group in Wismar, Linden.
According to a press release issued by the party, the move is in keeping with a promise made by Party Leader and Presidential Candidate Valerie Garrido-Lowe and is part of the party’s commitment to “rebuilding and revitalizing”.
Garrido-Lowe was accompanied by the Prime Ministerial Candidate and Chairman of the party, Ishmail Mohammed on her trip to the town, where they officially installed the officers of the group. The party leaders also used the opportunity to prepare the group for the party’s campaign in Region Ten.
Mohammed addressed the members of the group telling them “This is an historical moment”. He shared a brief history of the party and its contribution to the country then closed his address with a call for them to begin campaigning right away, saying that they should spread the word that The United Force is the party to vote for at the upcoming General Elections.
Ms. Garrido-Lowe told them how important the “Charter” of The United Force is. The “Charter”, she said, sets out the conditions for a genuine Democratic Party and the entire foundation of the party is based on the “Charter”.
“Our Charter states”, she said, “that all people are equal under God. And that the purpose of Government is to fulfill the needs of the people and to safeguard their rights. This is what we, the members of The United Force believe and this is what we will work towards achieving for the entire nation.”
During the event, the party members interacted with young people who shared some of their concerns with the politicians. The TUF learnt that one of the chief concerns is the need for jobs, with young people saying that they want to work to earn enough to live comfortable and happy lives. Residents pointed out that some of their children, younger brothers and sisters and friends have finished their schooling but there are no jobs to be had.
According to Ms. Althea Garraway, “That is why a lot of our young people are forced into living the fast life like pushing drugs.”
The TUF Leader told the Lindeners that “It is time for Guyanese to join with us in rebuilding and revitalizing this nation and start building our ‘Highways to Happiness’. It is long overdue”.
