Abdul Sheriff, who suffered multiple injuries after being involved in an accident on June 27, has now been transferred to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
When Kaieteur News visited the injured man yesterday, his wife explained that Sheriff is now slowly recovering though he still experiences severe pain in his lower back and head.
He is now showing signs of improvement as he can now speak whole sentences instead of the previous jargons and he also recognizes his family members.
Sheriff was walking along the road, when a truck driver apparently lost control of his vehicle and hit the 53-year-old man.
At that time he was employed as a security guard at the Herstelling Housing Scheme, EBD and was on his way to work.
According to a relative of the injured man, when the perpetrator who was operating the truck at the time of the accident was contacted, he told the woman, “I got charge for dangerous driving. Anything else my boss will handle it”.
Kaieteur News was also told that Sheriff had suffered severe head injuries, five places being broken on his right hand, one damaged lung and five fractures to his rib cage. He was not able to eat or even digest any liquids.
He was delirious and had to be restrained with his hands and feet tied to the sides of the bed since he previously tried to pull off all the test tubes and medical equipment from his body.
