A Block 22 family is now homeless, and left with only the clothes on their backs, after fire completely destroyed their small wooden house.
No one was at home at the time of the fire, according to reports.
Owner of the house, Pauline Frances, said that she was in church, when she received the news of the fire about 15:00 hrs.
“But if I tell you wha happen I would only be lying. Somebody just call the church phone and seh the house on fire, and I just sit down a little bit and prayed, and recollect meself, then I get up and come home,” Frances told media operatives.
She said she couldn’t estimate her losses, but pointed out that only last week her husband had brought in a computer for the children. She however noted that the house had no electricity.
The distraught woman said that she only got married two months ago, and has lost all her wedding gifts in the fire. She said that she had been living with her children in the house before she got married.
Her house was only done two years ago, by the church, after the one she was living in was in a dilapidated state. She said that she had been living at the location for the past sixteen years.
Her husband, Kester Frances, said that he had just left home and was walking with a neighbour when he heard somebody say that smoke was coming from the house.
Frances said that he immediately went back home but by the time he got there, the house was already burnt to the ground.
Two fire tenders which were at the scene, reportedly arrived after the fire had consumed the building, and only succeeded in cooling the ruins.
A neighbour said that she only became aware of the fire after she felt an intense heat, and upon looking out saw the house on fire. The woman said that at the time no one was around.
Pauline Frances and Kester Frances lived in the house with their five children whose ages ranged from 18 years to six years.
One of her daughters cried hysterically after realizing that she had lost everything, including her prized textbooks.
In recent times most of the fires occurring in Linden occur in the block 22 area.
Speculation has always been rife about the causes of these fires. A few were suspected to be electrical in origin.
