If the students attending the Enterprise Primary School on the East Coast of Demerara maintain their high standards, they are assured of the continued assistance from the Enterprise Support Group (ESG) USA Inc.
Videsh Lall of the ESG’s Local Steering Committee presents a plaque to Miss Sylvia Pitt in the presence of acting HM Diane Adams.
The overseas body through its local steering committee on Friday presented cash awards to the schools’ top 25 performers at this year’s Grade Six Assessment.
While the Enterprise Primary School did not secure a place at the country’s top secondary school, Queen’s College, it managed to secure four places at the St. Stanislaus College as well as a few places at President’s College, St. Rose’s High , St. Joseph High, and Annandale Secondary.
This time around it was the male students who carted off the top awards, with Mohanram Ramnarine and Ravindra Persaud topping the school with 511 marks each.
Videsh Lall, of the ESG’s Local Steering Committee, told Kaieteur News that the amount presented to students this year could be increased next year as the organization strives to maintain its pledge to the young people of Enterprise and nearby communities, who attend the Enterprise Primary.
This is the third year that the group has rewarded the school’s top performer financially.
“It’s a pledge that we will continue to honour in the years to come,” Lall said.
He noted that the organisation’s Board of Directors was extremely overwhelmed after receiving word on the school’s performance at this year’s examination.
He said that the possibility exists for students who maintain top performances throughout their secondary school career to receive continued financial assistance from the Enterprise Support Group, since the organization remains committed to the development of youth in the community.
One hundred and thirty-three (133) students from the school sat the examinations and 77 were awarded places at senior secondary schools.
Also on Friday the school said farewell to its headmistress Miss Sylvia Pitt who has reached the age of retirement.
Miss Pitt was hailed as one of the better Head teachers of the school in recent times, who was very cooperative with her teachers as well as the parent body.
She was presented with a plaque that was also provided by the Enterprise Support Group USA Inc.
Mohanram Ramnarine who shared the top performer prized with Ravindra Persaud, poses with his many trophies.
