The Georgetown-Lethem run can welcome the presence of yet another Cessna Caravan plying the route.
The reconditioned aircraft is the latest addition to the Air Services Limited (ASL) fleet and has been recertified by Cessna Air before making its way to Guyana. Its addition to the company’s fleet brings the number of planes up to 18.
ASL has been in the local flying business for more than 50 years and part of the company’s operations includes a local flying school which according to Annette Arjoon-Martins, Superintendent/Director, may be on the verge of expansion.
At a recent company sponsored event celebrating ASL’s acquisition and the forging of a new professional relationship between the Nicaraguan company, La Costina which supplied the plane and ASL, Arjoon hinted at the possible expansion.
She spoke of the closing of a flight school in Boa Vista and said that ASL is hoping to gain a little foothold in the pilot-training market in that country.
She pointed out that an incentive for these foreign students attending flight school in Guyana may be the fact that the country is English speaking and international aviation regulations dictate that English be spoken by all Air Traffic Controllers and Flight Crew Members engaged in or in contact with international flights.
Minister of Transport and Hydraulics, Robeson Benn said of the new industrial relationship between the two companies that it was a prime example of the need for integration at all levels within the region and he hoped that there will be more of the same in the future.
The Minister added that he is very pleased at ASL’s continued investment in the Cessna line citing the exemplary safety record of Cessna aircraft.
