– Activity set to conclude on Saturday 16th

A large crowd was on hand and the action was riveting, but the inclement weather had the last say and brought a premature end to the Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Industry second annual Inter-Agency Softball cricket tournament, Fun Day and Exhibition and games which were held on Monday last at the Albion Community Centre ground.
As the action got stated at 10:00hrs the atmosphere was electric for a short while in bright sunshine, however the weather changed suddenly and a heavy down pour that lasted for approximately 1 ½ hours forced the organizers of the event to make some changes, deferring the semifinals and the exhibition matches of the tournament to July 16 at either the Albion Sport Complex or the Rose Hall Community Centre Ground in East Canje.
The teams through to the semifinals so far are New Building Society, Metro Office & Computer Supplies, Karibee Rice of Nand Persaud and Company Limited and Memorex of Amerally Sawmills.
Results from the preliminary round of matches played were as follows: in game one, Metro Office & Computer Supplies batted first and compiled a formidable 80- 2 from their allotment of overs, in reply Neal and Massy Guyana Limited could only reach 73- 7 to loose by 7 runs.
Game 2 saw Nand Persaud whipping A. Ally and sons by 67 runs after they scored 112- 1 and then restricting their opponents to 45- 7.
In Game 3, Memorex made the highest score for the day by blasting 113- 3 to knock out defending champions Guysuco who could only muster 56- 5 to lose by 57 runs.
Game Four saw Cricket Show Media X1 beating Demerara Distilleries Limited by 17 runs. Cricket Show Media took first strike and reached 80- 3 and then dismissed their opponents for 63.
The next game saw Republic Bank scoring 60- 8 and then dismissing Banks DIH Limited for 52 for a close 8 runs win.
In the final preliminary game New Building Society made 65- 8 and then dismissed Demerara Bank for 54 to win by 9 runs.
In Quarterfinal matches Memorex whipped Oldendorff Carriers by 9 wickets. Oldendorff Carriers were routed for a paltry 21 to which Memorex raced to 24- 1.
Metro Office & Computer Supplies then took care of Cricket Show Media X1 by 22 runs. Scores were Metro 75- 2, Show media 53- 6. Nand Persaud and Company Limited then eked out a tense 1 run win over Banks DIH Limited by. Scores were Nand Persaud Karibee Rice X1 48- 1, Banks DIH Limited 47- 5. New Building Society has drew the by to the semifinals.
The organizers have indicated that Saturday July 16 matches will be bigger and better and the public is urged to expect something different as a few more novelty events have been added to spice up the day’s activities. Action is slated to commence at 13:00hrs.
Tickets purchased on Monday are still valid for Saturday’s event.
The gate prizes are still available which includes: First prize one Black Berry Phone -compliments of Digicel Guyana Limited; second prize of a Toshiba DVD Player has been presented by A Ally and Sons General store; the third Prize of an adult Bicycle is being presented by Home Designs and Engineering Services, R & S Shopping Centre is sponsoring the fourth prize of a BMX Bicycle. There will also be three cash prices all compliments of the Chamber.
The winning trophy of the Tournament has been sponsored by Peter Lewis of Associated Construction Services, while the Runner is sponsored by Digicel.
The two exhibition games are also still on the cards with top cricket teams Albion Community Centre taking on Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadget in a 10/10 hard ball encounter under flood lights, while top softball teams Wolf Warriors and Celebrity Times will clash in a featuring 10/10 Softball exhibition game.
