The final round of the Demerara Female Inter-Association 50-over competition continued yesterday at Demerara Cricket Club Ground and Police Sport Club Ground, Eve Leary with East Bank defeating West Demerara and Georgetown battering East Coast.
With East Bank wining the toss, Captain June Ogle Thomas took first strike, and they scored 177 runs losing 8 wickets with a contribution of 58 runs from extras. Top scorers were Abina Parker 62, and June Ogle Thomas 29.
Gangadai Singh took 3 wickets bowling 1 maiden in 10 overs for 48 runs and Zaheeda Samdally 2 wickets in 10 overs at 33 runs for West Demerara. Support came from Nalini Sumintra and Rukminee Persaud who captured 1 wicket apiece at a cost of 30 and 34 runs respectively.
West Demerara were unable to score the required runs with Tracy Glasgow, Youlanda Maynard and Jeanette Daniels scoring only 10, 18 and 19 runs respectively as they folded in 34.2 overs for 110 runs. Extras, 41, was the principal contributor.
East Bank’s Leana Harris, Donnette Ritchie and Abina Parker captured 2 wickets apiece with Harris bowling 2 maidens in ten overs, conceding 19 runs.
Meanwhile, over at the Police Ground Eve Leary, Georgetown brushed aside East Coast, bowling them out for 29 runs in 11 overs with Kavita Yadram making the highest score of 11 runs.
This was after Georgetown had amassed 273 for 6. Among the top players for Georgetown was Akeaze Thompson who scored 68 runs, taking 2 wickets for 3 runs, while Onika Wallerson scored 26 runs and captured 3-16 and Joan Van Sertima 2-10. Extras contributed 86.
