When play continued in the preliminary round of the GT&T FastBall knockout football nationwide tournament last night at the GFC Ground, Bent Street Ball Weavers led by the first helmet-trick of the tournament from National forward Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams demolished Young Guns 7-0 in one of 5 matches.
Also notching up wins up to press time were Chelsea by a 4-0 margin over Middle Street with Roxanne Warriors taking care of West Underdogs via penalty kicks 3-2 in a fierce and close game after a 2-2 tie at the end of regulation time. The other games scheduled last evening brought together Norton Street Warriors against Alexander Village Youths sand Reggae Boyz led by National player Shawn Bishop up against Ketley All Star.
Abrams, who has endured a long period of drought in the longer version of the game might very well be grooving back into worrying form for opposing sides in this new version of football. He inked his name on the scoring sheets in the 5th, 6th, 10th and 22nd minute for his side. Andre Sukhoo blasted the nets with the blue ball (2 goals) one minute to game time with the other goal coming off the boot of Okeney Fraser in the 22nd minute. Young Guns failed to fire in ideal conditions for shooting.
Chelsea were in fine form too as they sent Middle East packing 4-0 compliments of a blue ball double from Jermaine Munroe in the 13th minute to opening the scoring. Complimenting Monroe’s effort were Nickel Permaul in the 19th and Leroy Griffith in the 25th minute.
Roxanne prevailed over West Underdogs in a breathtaking battle on penalty kicks 3-2. Scoring for Roxanne in regulation time were Ryan Legall in eth 10th and Nathole Nagaloo in the 26th. Responding for West Underdogs were Leon Cassius in the 17th and Kellon Jonas in the 24th.
Meanwhile, no games were played at the BV Ground yesterday afternoon due to a waterlogged outfield due to heavy showers.
Several teams will walk the plank today as action continues countrywide. In Berbice matches will be played at Skeldon, Burnham Park and the No. 5 Grounds and not Blairmont as was originally published.
In the Cinderella County of Essequibo, games are now scheduled for the Hampton Court Ground and not the Anna Regina Community Centre; On the West Coast of Demerara play will now take place at the Den Amstel Ground and not Uitvlugt while the Diamond Ground will host matches on the East Bank of Demerara and Mackenzie Sports Club Ground in Linden.
Matches at all the venues except for Linden (18:00hrs) will kick off at 15:00hrs.
