– taken from Stadium Park
Police on the East Coast of Demerara on Sunday morning recovered what was left of a Toyota Carina AT 212 motorcar, hours after it was stolen from outside the National Stadium at Providence, East Bank Demerara.
The vehicle was almost stripped to the bare frame by persons who police described as ‘professionals’.
Kaieteur News understands that the car belongs to a Melanie Damishana woman, who had attended last Saturday night’s mega chutney concert at the stadium, and had secured the car in the facility’s parking lot. When she returned to uplift the vehicle, she found an empty space.
A report was made to the police and ranks of a patrol on duty in the Felicity, East Coast Demerara area stumbled upon an abandoned vehicle, which they determined to be the woman’s.
The owner was summoned, but instead of turning up to retrieve her car, the woman got the shock of her life when she saw what was left of her vehicle. All the doors had been removed as well as the front and back bumpers, back and tail lights, the bonnet, trunk and even the seats.
The car was dusted for fingerprints but it is not too clear if they match any of those found on stolen cars recently.
Investigators are convinced that car thieves are now targeting the Toyota AT 212 model, the parts of which are very expensive.
Just last week, police at Ogle, East Coast Demerara, recovered a similar type of vehicle a few hours after it was hijacked from its driver in Sophia. All the lights and mirrors had been already removed.
