On Friday last some representatives from the President’s College Parent Teacher Association were planning to protest a meeting which was held by the School’s board.
However as a result of the poor turnout the protest never materialised.
A source who was present at the meeting said most of the time members of the School’s board were focused on ‘insulting’ the Acting Head Teacher of the school. This publication was told that this has been a norm for the past few years.
“All they ever do is insult the Principal; nothing she does is good for the school, while they (the Board) are the ones destroying the school.”
The source said that as the disparaging remarks continued in the meeting, the Acting Head Teacher stormed out, which angered the board and its members. Kaieteur News understands that the board members then openly announced that they will seek to have the Acting Head Teacher, dismissed, transferred or demoted for storming out of the meeting.
Members of the PTA are of the opinion that the board officials are abusing their power and doing things the way it best suits them.
“This woman has done well for this school; she has been a mother to these children. Under her leadership last year this school topped the country at CSEC. What more do they want from Miss?”
“If the board would just sit and work with the teachers and head teacher of this school to come up with solutions, this school will bring itself back as opposed to just sitting and lambasting the head.”
The PTA believes that the Head Teacher is being treated the way she is because she refuses to do what the Board wants, as she feels it is not in keeping with proper morals and her belief.
There are also reports of the School’s board hiring and firing as they wish and placing persons in positions for which they are not qualified.
In addition, it was pointed out that the head teacher has been trying to source a generator for the school which is affected by constant power outages.
“Can you imagine a boarding school has no generator and the board don’t see it fit to source one, these children are made to suffer at nights when there is a blackout.”
The PTA is calling on the Ministry of Education to intervene in the matter and to conduct a thorough investigation.
