The murder suspect, who was held by Suriname authorities for an alleged assault charge, appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Hubert Pilgrim, on February 12, at Norton Street, Wortmanville, allegedly murdered 41-year-old Natalie Loncke.
The accused who resides in Hadfield Street was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Police Prosecutor Venetta Pindar told the court that Pilgrim and Loncke were sharing a visiting relationship.
Pindar stated that on the day in question, at about 17:30 hours, the accused visited the Loncke’s home at Lot 9 Norton Street, Wortmanville, where they had an argument.
The disagreement became violent, and in the process, the accused armed with an iron rod lashed Loncke several times to her head. The court was told that she received severe injuries, and as a result she was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
A report was subsequently made to the police station.
The accused was later arrested in Suriname, brought to back to Guyana, and charged with the offence.
Pilgrim, whom was remanded to prison, is expected to make his next court appearance on July 14.
