The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) on Monday launched the upcoming Caribbean Championships that Guyana will host during August 12-20 with GTTA Head, Commissioner of Police, Henry Greene stating that Guyana is ahead of preparations.
“We have set up committees and they are working to ensure that we host a memorable Caribbean Championships. I want to say that we will continue to do our best for the 12 teams expected to be here for those Championships,” Greene told an audience of enthusiasts.
He said that there is a secretariat that is well equipped and functioning. Greene is of the view that Guyana should do everything it can to impress the countries that will be here. Greene said that all the various systems are being implemented to have a successful event.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony supported Greene’s view, adding that a lot of work is going to be done in and around the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall to “spruce up” what is going to be the venue for the Caribbean Table Tennis Championships.
“The Caribbean wants to continue coming to Guyana because we have a perfect track record of hosting international events,” Anthony said, adding that there will be lots of economic spin offs from Guyana hosting the event. He encouraged such events in Guyana.
Among the Caribbean countries expected to compete for supremacy here, Table Tennis dynamos in Latin America, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic are expected to compete, making the competition in the event extraordinarily tough.
