Perspective umpires as well as those already established in the profession will be exposed to the intricacies of the trade on one hand, or on the other, add to their repertoire of knowledge, when the Guyana Cricket Umpires and Scoring Association (GCU&SC) hosts training and lecture classes at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) pavilion.
Activities got underway on Monday last and will conclude on August 18 next. Sessions would only be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 17:00hrs and 19:00hrs.
According to Secretary of the GCU&SC and umpire, Matthew Kissoon, several competent facilitators would be lecturing on pertinent topics of the trade including the laws of cricket specifically as they relate to umpiring.
The 42 laws of cricket would also take center stage even as the facilitators highlight the amendments to these laws.
Several facilitators would guide participants through the course including Colin Alfred, Nigel Duguid, Shannon Crawford and renowned umpire, Clyde Duncan.
While several persons have already registered and sessions are already underway, the organizers have indicated that they will still accept those interested in being a part of activities. Those individuals may visit the venue during the times indicated above to be registered. A nominal fee of $500 will be charged for participation.
