Caricom Day bush cook ends in murder

Police are investigating the death of 26-year-old sugar worker Mahendra Ally, called Rishi or Strong Man, a father of one, of Kilcoy, Chesney, Corentyne.
The man was allegedly stabbed to death on Monday at a bush cook at Topo, another village on the Corentyne, not far from his home.
According to information, Ally left home on Monday to celebrate the Caricom Day holiday by having a bush cook with some friends. It is understood that during the bush cook an argument ensued and his alleged assailant identified as Ramjeet, called ‘Crusoe’ who was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, armed himself with a knife and stabbed Ally in the region of his heart. The man allegedly died on the spot.
It is understood that his assailant who is also from the area then fled the scene. He however gave himself up on yesterday, accompanied by a lawyer.
Ally, who worked at the Albion Estate as a manure hand, is the father of a four-year-old ,while his wife Yougeeta Dhanessar, 25, is said to be seven months pregnant.
Ally was originally from the Skeldon area, but had relocated to Topo, Chesney, in search of a job.
The assailant’s wife is also said to be pregnant.
