According to a Guyana Cricket Board official, Guyana’s First Class leg-spinner Amir Khan not being issued the relevant visa to gain entry into the U.S.A to represent the West Indies in Florida from tomorrow (Wednesday).
A GCB source informed that Khan and fellow Guyanese Ronsford Beaton, who both played against the Australia youths on the West Indies under-19 tour to Dubai earlier this year, made application to the US embassy in Georgetown for the necessary visa to travel to Florida to be part of the West Indies Under-19 tour.
“Beaton was issued his but Amir’s is still pending, reason given the embassy is that his application is going through an “administrative process which can include other agencies” they have kept his passport and no word up to now. Amir family made contact with the embassy and was told the same thing on a number of occasions” the GCB source told Kaieteur News yesterday (Monday)
Beaton, who was born in Montserrat in the Leewards Islands, has also played First-Class cricket for Guyana and a GCB source said that both players should play crucial roles for the Regional side in the USA.
Khan is a former West Indies under-15 leg-spinner and was the leading bowler in last year’s Regional under-19 tournament.
“Amir is a very committed cricketer and hard worker and we hope that his name has nothing to do with him being denied the Visa. We do hope that he is granted one in order to continue his dream of playing for the West Indies at the highest level,” the GCB source added.
