Lightweight boxer Steffon Gouveia made an impressive start to his hopes of qualifying from the Pan Am Box off currently underway in Panama.
According to reports from the Guyanese team at the event, Gouveia defeated his Canadian opponent Jag Seehra and has advanced to fight Wellington Arias of the Dominican Republic in the quarterfinal round. The other boxer on the Guyana team, Jnr Welterweight Bert Braithwaite was in action last evening.
The pair is accompanied by Manager/Coach Terrence Poole after the original selection had to be trimmed due to lack of funds.
