Victim granted self bail on damage to property charge
Dwayne Sultan,.who was involved in fracas with his neighbour was placed on $15,000 bail by Magistrate Adele Nagamootoo when he appeared before her on Friday at the New Amsterdam magistrate’s court.
Sultan, 26, a labourer of Lot 31 Lord Street, Number Two Village pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Seepaul Ramlochan called ‘Palo’, 53, on June 14, at Number Two Village East Canje Berbice.
Ramlochan, also a labourer was charged with damaging to property and he was released on his own recognizance.
It is alleged that on the same day he damaged a motorcycle belonging to Sultan’s father.
According to prosecutor Corporal Sherlock King the two men are neighbours. They have been having problems and on the day in question it is alleged that there was a misunderstanding.
It is alleged that about 18:45 hrs a squabble broke out between the two men and Ramlochan pelted the victim with a piece of wood, striking him on his arm. He then proceeded to damage the motor cycle that was parked on the street.
The two men ended up fighting with a cutlass and during the fracas Ramlochan was chopped across his face.
He had to be assisted to the New Amsterdam hospital where he was subsequently treated
Attorney at Law Ramesh Rajkumar appeared for Sultan and asked for reasonable bail for his client since it was his first brush with the law. He stated that his client was not the aggressor.
They will have to return to court on August 26.
