The Hornets Rugby team inflicted a 39-5 drubbing on the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) when the two teams clashed in the first round of the Colin Sultan fifteens rugby tournament at the National Park yesterday afternoon.
Peabo Hamilton led the way for the winners with three successful tries, while Ryan Gonsalves registered three conversions. Lance Brown scored the first try to open the eventual winners’ account, while Elwin Chase and Ryan Dojoy completed the onslaught with two successful tries apiece. John Mars scored the lone try for the army.
The tournament will be contested over a period of three weekends with Caribs and GDF facing off next Saturday.
