A Friendship, East Bank Demerara man was on Friday evening pulled from a canal in his village. Reports are that the man may have fallen and hit his head and then drowned in the canal. The man has been identified as 32-year-old Samuel Victor.
The dead man’s mother, Joy Victor, told this publication that her son was last seen alive on Thursday.
According to Mrs. Victor her son was living with her some time back but moved out to start living under a bridge not far from her home. She said that he suffered from mental problems and had a drug addiction problem.
She related that she and other relatives tried their best to save Samuel but to no avail.
“He would not take his medication and it was very strenuous on us to get him to court to have him committed. So he just ended up on the road,”.
Mrs. Victor added that she was told that her son was seen on Thursday and she received a telephone call around 18:30 hours on Friday saying that her son had died.
The woman added that person in the area said that Samuel had fallen and hit his head some time earlier on Thursday and was seen bleeding from his nose. However no one reportedly saw when he fell into the canal.
The man’s body was discovered by passersby in the area on Friday, He was found face up in the canal with clenched fists. The man’s remains are currently at the Lyken Funeral home awaiting a post mortem examination.
