Yesterday marked a monumental moment for VP Sports Update when the company launched its inaugural Inter-Organisation Basketball League, which was an offshoot of the Inter-Organisation Two-Day Competition that was held earlier this month at the Sports Hall.
The best teams from the two-day competition were invited to compete in a League that will start today on the Burnham Basketball Court with three games. Neal and Massy Group of Companies officially endorsed the League, hoping for its success, yesterday.
“Neal and Massy is very pleased to be associated with the Inter-Organisation tournament. It was a huge success the last time it was held and we hope that the League will be a success,” Manager of the Neal and Massy Sports Club, Stuart May, told the media.
Neal and Massy is one of the major sponsors of the event along with Giftland OfficeMax, Banks DIH under its Powerade brand and a design company.
All the sponsors have teams competing in the event with Neal and Massy being the current indoor champions.
Neal and Massy will play Son/Son Barbershop from Melanie to open the tournament today while Starr Computers are expected to battle an abbreviated B.F team and Laparkan Group takes on the Pretty Paul Singh unit to commence the inaugural League for organisations.
Chief Executive Officer of VP Sports Update, Vijay Panday revealed that the winning team will take home a whopping $200,000 while second place will pocket $75,000 and third place $25,000 with the Most Valuable Player getting $15,000 and trophy.
Panday informed that trophies will be accompanying all the individual and team cash incentives in the tournament.
“This event came at a time when basketball is not being played in Georgetown, so it is a form of reviving and resuscitating the sport even though it is just for organisations,” Panday said at what was the official launch of the event. He said that it was a unique occasion.
