At the University of Guyana’s Research Day 2011, yesterday, Dr. James Rose, Dr. David Chanderbali, and Tota Mangar, historians and former officers of the institution, were honoured for their research.
Dr. James Rose was a former Principal and Vice-Chancellor for the period 2000 to 2008, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts. Some of his works include: The Colonial Office and the retreat of direct rule in British Guyana, 1955 to1957; The Strike of 1842; and The Plight of the British Guiana Creoles: 1838- 1873 A Study of Antagonistic Class Relations.
Dr. David Chanderbali served as Registrar for the period 1996 to 2008 and as Assistant Dean in the Arts Faculty. His research includes: The Indian indenture system: evolution and structure; Planter response to slave emancipation in British Guiana; and History Gazette The Indian Indenture System: evolution and structure.
During 2007 to 2010, Tota Mangar was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University and he acted as the Vice-Chancellor for the period October 2007 to April 2008. Some of the research he produced: A Brief History of the Guyana Forestry Commission 1925 to 2004; Guyana’s History and Economic Development; and a Guide to Georgetown City Guyana.
