At least one man is dead as a result of a truck plunging into a creek along the Linden to Lethem Road, several miles from Kurupukari.
The name of the dead man was given as Ozario Khan, who is said to be in his early 20s, and the son of a Lethem businessman.
He was reportedly driving the truck at the time of the mishap which reportedly occurred early yesterday morning.
Details of the accident were sketchy up to late last night, but reports indicated that his body is stuck in the cabin of the truck even as desperate attempts continue to retrieve it.
According to reports, the bridge broke under the weightof the truck which was heavily laden.
Kaieteur News understands that the mishap has put a halt to traffic into and out of Lethem, causing more hardship to the community which is still recovering from a devastating flood.
