Alwyn Williams, who was charged with murder, appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The charge states that Williams, on June 27, at the Big Creek Landing, Northwest District, Region One, murdered Charles Tang.
The accused was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunte told the court that on the day in question, at about 10:00hrs, Tang, Williams and other individuals were drinking alcoholic beverages when an argument broke out between the Williams and Tang. The prosecutor stated that the accused then stabbed Tang several times with a knife, and as a result of the injuries, the victim died.
The suspect was subsequently taken to the Port Kaituma Police Station, where he was detained and charged with the offence.
Williams was remanded to prison and his matter was transferred to the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court. He is expected to make his next court appearance on August 2.
