Avenamen Permaul, a 45-year-old Father of Belvedere, Corentyne and father of four, was on Sunday last honoured by the Special Events Committee (SEC) of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) under the Board’s Father of the Year Programme for this year.
Mr. Avemanen Permaul posed with members of the Berbice Elite squad along with his wife and son Veerapen.
Permaul is the proud father of Veerai 24, Marioy 20, Veerasammy 22 and Veerapen 17. His only two sons Veerasammy and Veerapen are members of the Albion Cricket Club and have represent Berbice and Guyana at the junior level. Veerasammy has also gone on to represent Guyana at the senior level, the West Indies A team and is a member of Regional Cricket Academy.
Board Secretary Angela Haniff, Cricket Coaching Coordinator Julian Moore and members of the Junior Elite Coaching Programme visited the Permaul’s residence on Sunday to present the proud parent with a Father- of-the-Year Certificate and a special gift.
Ms. Haniff, who is also a senior member of the Special Events Committee, congratulated Permaul on his selection, stating that the BCB is proud of the role he played in the development of his children especially the two Berbice cricketers.
Veerasammy and Veerapen, the long time cricket administrator stated, are disciplined individuals and are products of a loving and united family. She urged Mr. Permaul to uphold the high standards he has set himself and to continue to be a positive role model to his children.
The Board, Ms. Haniff stated wants all parents to play major roles in the lives of their children, so that all cricketers representing Berbice would be properly prepared to be Ambassadors for the Ancient County.
An emotional Permaul in response expressed gratitude to the Berbice Cricket Board for recognising him. He said that he was humbled to be selected as the 2011 Father of the year, stating that being a parent of four wonderful children was the best gift God gave him.
He urged the Board to continue the outstanding work it was doing and for the role it was playing in the lives of youths in Berbice. He also urged the young cricketers to take their education seriously, to keep away from drugs, to be discipline and to focus on the game so that they can be successful in their careers.
