Karatekas of the Great Diamond Marshal Arts Association demonstrated acute dexterity even as they distinguished themselves among their peers when action concluded in the first annual inter club karate tournament at the Diamond Community Centre, Diamond EBD, on Sunday June 26 last.
The tournament got underway at 10:00hrs under the direction of Master Lloyd Ramnarine and the male and female karatekas started the competition with action in the Kata event. Consequently, Marvin Melville copped the top prize in the female 6-8 Kata, in front of Alliyah Ramnarine. Euclin Gomes also had to be content with second place to Akimmo Miller while Zadin Ganpat finished third. In the 11-13yrs category Ivor Singh finished first followed by Elion Hescott while Krishna Jacobis closed off the podium spots.
In the 13-16 senior male category, Stephan Persaud came out on top, followed by Julius Kesney while Lloyd Smith finished third.
In the Junior Male open division Raul Joseph prevailed over Isaac Gangadeen and Shawn Ganpat, in second and third places, respectively. In the 15-17yrs female senior category Sheena Jacob came out on top while in the male open division Raul Joseph finished at the top followed by Isaac Guyadeen and Shawn Ganpat, second and third respectively.
Other results are: Female free style kata (musical form): 6-8yrs female senior-Alliyah Ramnarine. White belt 10-13yrs: Euclin David (1st), Akimmo Miller (2nd). 9-12yrs Male senior Elion Hescott (1st), Krishna Jacobis (2nd) and Ivor Singh (3rd). 13-16yrs male senior-Lloyd Smith (1st); Stephen Persaud (2nd) and George Lim (3rd).
Jnr male open-Rual Joseph (1st); Steven (2nd) and Shawn (3rd). 15-17 female seniors-Sheena Jacobis (1st) and Portia (2nd).
