– suspect on the run
By Latoya Giles
Police in the hinterland area are hunting for a 40 year old woman who allegedly set her reputed husband alight after dousing him with gasoline last Friday.
Reports are that Malcolm Lancaster 45, of Rosignol Berbice and of Durban Street Lodge, was cleaning “gold” over the fireside when his reputed wife came from behind and threw gasoline on him, causing him to be engulfed in the flames.
The incident happened in the Ikawan Backdam, Mazaruni. The man died sometime around 20:00hrs on Saturday at the Georgetown Hospital Burn Care Unit. He had reportedly suffered severe third degree burns to his entire body.
A sister of the victim explained that her brother was in the yard cleaning “some raw gold” when the incident happened.
Kaieteur News was told that the woman waited until Lancaster had lighted the fire and just walked up behind him and threw the gasoline on him. His son Nichol who witnessed the incident was the person who took his father to the Bartica Hospital.
However Lancaster was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
Relatives further told Kaieteur News that Lancaster had found out that the woman was being unfaithful.
“He found her with someone and was leaving her….so this is what she did” the sister told Kaieteur News yesterday.
Police sources yesterday said that they were following up the report. According to the sources the police have been dispatched to the Ikawan Backdam, in search of the suspect.
Up to press time the woman was not arrested by the police. Lancaster according to relatives leaves to mourn his siblings, and four children.
