The Guyana Police Force male team amassed 288 points to cart off the honours when the Guyana Association of Private Security Organization (GAPSO) staged the 10th George Melville Memorial Sidearm competition at the Police Range Eve Leary, yesterday morning.
The tournament was two tiered in nature with ten teams from the private security services competing against each other while members of the Guyana Police Force and those from the Guyana Defence Force were locked in battle.
The law officers also sealed off the top prize in the women’s category with an accumulative total of 255 points, while Federal Management System (FMS) dominated among the private security firms with 245 points from a highest possible score of 300. Mekdeci Mining Security Co (MMC) finished second after accumulating 225 points. Paul Blackman of FMS won the award for the best shooter in the security services category, while the judges were forced to choose between Malcolm Melville and Clifton Davis for a similar prize among the other services. In the end, Melville and Davis both accumulated 99 points apiece.
Melville eventually prevailed by dint of his accumulation of three bulls as against 2 by Davis.
