– four suspects detained
Police have reportedly foiled a plot to kidnap the son of a wealthy Parika, Essequibo, sawmiller and to extort a $50M ransom from the family.
Kaieteur News understands that investigators have detained four men who have been implicated in the plot and are looking for a fifth suspect.
The detained men are reportedly being questioned at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary.
An official said that one of the suspects is a former employee of the sawmiller, while the others are associates of his son.
Police officials have declined to divulge too much information about the investigation, and even close relatives of the intended victim have apparently been kept in the dark.
A close relative of the intended victim expressed surprise when asked yesterday to confirm the report.
Over the past few days, police have been probing two other alleged abductions involving teenage girls.
Two of the teens, who are from Yarrowkabra, on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, had alleged that they were kidnapped near their home last Tuesday and held hostage in an abandoned building.
They surfaced Friday night near the Timehri racing circuit. Police are still investigating that incident.
Then on Thursday, police received a report about the alleged kidnapping of an 18-year-old computer student.
The teen was found yesterday in a Festival City House. She subsequently admitted that she had staged her own abduction, while demanding a $300,000 ransom.
