This weekend’s golf tournament will take on an international flavour with at least five overseas players expected to join their local counterparts in the Canam (Canadian/American) Challenge Medal play golf tournament sponsored by Canadian and US-based members of the Lusignan Golf Club.
The tournament will be played today and will attract over 45 players Captain of the Lusignan Golf Club Brian Glasford disclosed.
The list will include five overseas-based players including Canadian-based Guyanese David Persaud who contested last weekend’s Budget Super Centre sponsored tournament. The names of the other overseas players were not released as they plan to spring a surprise on the local outfit.
“Apart from the actual competition there will also be novelty events including chipping over the wall and putting,” Glasford said.
Among the participants expected to compete are Club President Brian Hackett, William Walker, Kishun Bacchus, Andre Cummings, Clifford Reis, Carlos Adams, Chatterpaul Deo, Muntaz Haniff, Mohanlall Dinnanauth, Dr. Ram Singh, Patrick Prashad, Christine Suhkram, Colin Ming, Albert Russell, Troy Cadogan, Esau Shamshudin, Maurice Solomon, Mike Mangal, Mike Gayadin, Mark Lashley, Rawle Moore, Hilbert Shields, John Tracey, Ronald Bulkan, Albert Russell, Francois Montour and Albert Semple.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three best gross as well as Nearest to the Pin.
Glasford is encouraging the young golfers who recently graduated from the two-month Junior Training programme to compete in this weekend’s Classic.
Tee off is at 11:00 hours.
Meanwhile, plans are on stream for the launch of a golf magazine in Guyana. The publishers of GEM Guyana Entertainment Magazine are working closely with officials of the Lusignan Golf Club to publish the magazine by August.
