Local police are in contact with their Surinamese counterparts to facilitate the return to Guyana of a man who is wanted for the murder of his reputed wife.
The man, Hubert Pilgrim, is being held by Suriname authorities allegedly on assault charges.
Police in a press release confirmed Pilgrim’s arrest in Suriname.
“Through normal policing procedure the Surinamese authorities found out that he is wanted in Guyana,” a senior police official told Kaieteur News.
Hubert Pilgrim is wanted for questioning in relation to the murder of school teacher, Natalie Loncke, 41, at her home at Norton Street on February 12 , last. She succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was rushed with her throat slit.
The man had also wounded the woman’s daughter who had intervened to protect her mother.
A neighbour had heard the couple arguing during which Loncke was heard demanding that Pilgrim leave the house.
However the suspect refused to leave and a fight ensued. The woman’s daughter, Renatha Craig, 19, rushed to her mother’s aid but Pilgrim struck her to the face with a piece of wood.
Alone with Loncke, Pilgrim reportedly seized the opportunity to overpower the woman, neighbours said.
A loud crashing sound emanated from Loncke’s apartment and then the woman was heard screaming.
Minutes, later the suspect emerged from the house and made good his escape.
A check of the apartment found Loncke lying in a pool of blood, bleeding from a gaping wound in her neck.
A week later, police issued a wanted bulletin for Pilgrim.
There were rumours that Pilgrim was hiding out in the Le Repentir Cemetery, where he previously worked as a tomb builder.
